DESCRIPTION:National Center for Family Philanthropy  \nPower and Racial Equity: From Self-Assessment to Systemic Change   \nJune 7  \n  \nSenior Engagement Associate Eleni Refu will lead a conversation about how family foundations can operationalize equity and work towards systemic change by interrogating the ways they build\, share\, and wield their power. SUMMARY:A Call to Action: Investing in Black Leadership for Migrant and Racial Justice
DESCRIPTION:Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees  \nA Call to Action: Investing in Black Leadership for Migrant and Racial Justice  \nJune 2\, 2022  \n  \nNCRP is proud to co-sponsor this webinar. NCRP’s recent analysis of Candid data found that merely 1.3% of foundation funding for the pro-immigrant\, pro-refugee movement in the U.S. goes to groups whose primary focus is Black migrant communities\, even though Black immigrants are the fastest growing segment of the immigrant population in the U.S. Black migrant organizations play a critical role in supporting migrants arriving at U.S. borders\, building power with and for the growing African\, Afro-Caribbean\, and Afrolatinx migrant communities in the U.S.\, and transforming the U.S. immigration system to embrace the humanity and dignity of all migrants. The time is NOW for philanthropy to proactively address the historic underinvestment in Black migrant communities. Please join this briefing with Black migrant leaders and funders to learn more about:   \n\nThe growing number of Black migrants in the U.S. and the unique and urgent challenges facing Black migrant communities. \nThe critical leadership roles Black migrant organizations play in the movements for immigrant and racial justice\, including in urgent efforts to provide humanitarian relief\, supporting migrants at the border in preparation for the end of Title 42\, and fighting for permanent status and protections benefiting all migration communities. \nWhat funders can do to invest in Black migrant communities\, including supporting the Black Migrant Power Fund.

SUMMARY:Leadership and Accountability: Overcoming Foundation Fragility to Advance Justice
DESCRIPTION:Grantmakers for Effective Organizations  \nLeadership and Accountability: Overcoming Foundation Fragility to Advance Justice  \nMay 16 – 18\, 2022  \nIn-person/Virtual   \n  \nAt GEO’s 2022 National Conference\, Senior Engagement Associate Eleni Refu will facilitate a breakout conversation with grantmakers and other practitioners on the responsibilities and roles of foundation trustees in justice-centered philanthropy. As stewards of opportunities for equity and justice\, foundation leaders set the tone for how a foundation shows up in the world. So\, what happens when a foundation is called out for their actions or their inaction? In this special\, interactive session designed for foundation CEO’s and senior leadership\, attendees will explore how they can embrace humility\, boldness and bravery when it is hardest to do so. Participants will leave with tools and analysis to help ensure that as our communities grapple with the legacies of white supremacy\, xenophobia\, a warming planet and so much more\, their institutions contribute to\, not impede\, the right side of history.

SUMMARY:Sharing Power: Community-Powered Grantmaking
DESCRIPTION:Northern California Grantmakers   \nSharing Power: Community-Powered Grantmaking  \nApril 12\, 2022  \nVirtual   \n  \nSenior Engagement Associate\, Eleni Refu\, will be moderating a panel discussion on sharing power for Northern California Grantmakers. This session will explore the Sharing Power module in depth\, offering three living case studies of foundations that turned grantmaking decisions over to the community.  Stories will be shared by the funders and community leaders together\, highlighting the successes and challenges they encountered along the way and describing how community-powered grantmaking has accelerated their work and deepened their impact.    \nWe’ll discuss both what sharing power is and what it looks like in practice and provide a framework to help participants consider how to operationalize it in their own institutions.  We will have plenty of time for audience questions and examples – we encourage funders already engaged in power-sharing as well as those new to it to join the discussion.
