SUMMARY:Sharing Power: Community-Powered Grantmaking
DESCRIPTION:Northern California Grantmakers   \nSharing Power: Community-Powered Grantmaking  \nApril 12\, 2022  \nVirtual   \n  \nSenior Engagement Associate\, Eleni Refu\, will be moderating a panel discussion on sharing power for Northern California Grantmakers. This session will explore the Sharing Power module in depth\, offering three living case studies of foundations that turned grantmaking decisions over to the community.  Stories will be shared by the funders and community leaders together\, highlighting the successes and challenges they encountered along the way and describing how community-powered grantmaking has accelerated their work and deepened their impact.    \nWe’ll discuss both what sharing power is and what it looks like in practice and provide a framework to help participants consider how to operationalize it in their own institutions.  We will have plenty of time for audience questions and examples – we encourage funders already engaged in power-sharing as well as those new to it to join the discussion.

SUMMARY:Centering Collective Black Power for Migrant and Racial Justice
DESCRIPTION:Unbound Philanthropy \nCentering Collective Black Power for Migrant and Racial Justice \nOctober 6\, 2021 \nVirtual Workshop \n  \nOver the last few weeks\, we collectively and viscerally witnessed the cruelty and violence that Black migrants have been experiencing at the U.S.- Mexico border and across the region for decades. As urgent humanitarian efforts are underway to support Haitian and other asylum seekers in Texas by frontline leaders\, it’s clear that the deterrence first policy is morally repugnant and failing. \n  \nIn this crucial moment\, we must center Black voices and power for migrant and racial justice. For decades\, Black migrant leaders have built resilient organizations to support their communities and create opportunities for leadership and capacity-building. \nJoin us for an emergency call from 11-12:30 pm ET this Wednesday\, October 6 to explore how to best uplift these efforts and advance power-building strategies for migrant and racial justice. \n  \nCo-sponsors: Unbound Philanthropy\, NCRP\, Hispanics in Philanthropy\, Funders for Justice & Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees.
