Why should I join?

Philanthropy plays a vital role in the well-being of nonprofit organizations and the vulnerable communities and disadvantaged groups that organizations like yours seeks to protect. Over the years, NCRP along with our member organizations and affiliates have created much positive change in the sector. When you join NCRP, we’ll work together to advance wins like these:

• Made the sector more transparent by lobbying Congress for changes to 990s.
• Published Foundations and Public Information: Sunshine or Shadow, which pushed foundations to publish annual reports.
• Helped organize the first four women’s funds, which eventually led to the creation of the Women’s Funding Network.
• Broke up United Way’s monopoly on workplace giving and pressured the organization to embrace advocacy and more funding for communities of color.
• Pushed the Combined Federal Campaign to bring advocacy groups and nontraditional charities like women’s groups and racial/ethnic groups to the table. $50 million of the CFCs annual giving now goes to these types of organizations.
• Published Moving a Public Policy Agenda: The Strategic Philanthropy of Conservative Foundations, which paved the way for the creation of think tanks like the Center for American Progress and contributed to the formation of the Democracy Alliance, which is the largest network of donors that play a leading role in building and advancing America’s progressive movement.
