OUR FUTURE

In 2016, NCRP released a new strategic framework to guide our work during the next 10 years.

NCRP Strategic Framework Rollout – Seattle

Our second NCRP Strategic Framework Rollout event was held Dec. 1, 2016, in Seattle. The following themes emerged from the discussion at this event (most popular in bold):

  • Bridges connecting unlikely allies to longstanding leaders for social justice need to be built, but we also have to build walls to hold the line on issues we feel are important.
  • Civic leaders need to be cultivated because “campaigns cannot be movements.”
  • Right now we need to “fight for all.” We have to close the gap between self-directed philanthropy that is oblivious to equity and “mandated” equity. How do we educate and cultivate donors to include an equity lens?
  • Now is the time to withstand the attacks on the poor. Many funders are creating reserve funds or rapid response funds to support social justice leaders. We need to build infrastructure of nonprofits, and we need to expand the pie to get everyone in the fight.
  • Regional funders and think tanks are important; they can expand the picture and highlight nuances.
  • Rural groups are underfunded and less able to respond to hate activity.
  • It is critical that voter engagement and civic participation programs be funded now.
  • How do you fund relationship building? Currently, funding is siloed, and people and networks need funding to connect.
